Research Lines: Nanotriboloy & ThermoMechanics

Hello everyone! My name is Oscar Gutiérrez, and I’m a physicist. I received my bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM – Mexico) and my Master of Science in Physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). I pursued my Ph.D. through a joint supervision and double diploma program between UNAM and Claude Bernard Lyon University (UCBL – France). Currently, I am conducting postdoctoral research at the Department of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM – Spain).

My research areas focus on the physics of matter at the nanoscale, primarily utilizing computational tools, with a strong emphasis on Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations. Using these tools, I have conducted studies on liquid crystals and transport properties in fluids, encompassing both viscous and thermal properties. Recently, I have started working on various topics in tribology, ranging from single-molecule manipulation on surfaces to studying thermophoretic effects and the presence of defects in 2D materials. Many of these investigations aim to interpret experimental results obtained through Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) techniques, where we handle the theoretical aspect by simulating systems using atomistic MD simulations.

If, like me, you are passionate about the world of science and enjoy blending this passion with computational tools, don’t hesitate to contact us and join the group!
